Stone Lodge

             WHAT ELSE IS NEAR?

Aside from being a hub of activity in its own right, Stone Lodge is at the centre of a number of local attractions.

From the renowned Somanya and Agomenya bead markets, the Akosombo and Akuse hyro-electric dams to the nearby nature reserve with its baboons, monkeys and deer, there is a lot to see around Stone Lodge. There are also many rare birds that are native only in this corner of Ghana.

The Volta Lake which, with a storage capacity of 124,000,000 acre-feet (153,000,000,000 cubic metres) of water is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, is only a few kilometres away. Lying a few miles south south of the Akosombo dam, across the Volta river is the Adomi suspension bridge, one of the best examples of its kind in the world.

The Shai Hills Game Reserve 30 kilometres away offers a great opportunity to experience some Ghanaian wildlife. The Reserve is home to monkeys (baboons and cercopithecus), water bucks, royal antelope, cephalophes, oribus and wildcats among others.

However, you do not have to leave Stone Lodge to discover things of interest. In addition to the extensive local flora and fauna, interesting historical stone artifacts have been found at Stone Lodge. Who knows what you might find?
